This is a sweet, predictable, short story, but the characters are so likeable they feel like friends. Theo is just so sweet. Rose thinks she is going to die and makes a decision based on that belief that she otherwise might not have made. But everyone survives. A lovely story for a commute or just before going to bed. It was alright, could've used more oomph to the story line.
This tense romantic tale paints a picture that is not only realistic with regards to plot, setting, and dialogue, it also glistens with a heartwarming light. It seems to remind us that while the real world's circumstances scarcely allow for the kind of picture-perfect romances we like to read about, glimpses of true love can shine through if we are willing to let them.
I was impressed with Fields of Gold. Although it's a short story, the characters, especially Theo, were well done. I liked the conflict between the two rival merchants and the romance between Rose and Theo was tangible. Satisfying ending too, overall very well done. )
Fields of Gold is book 2 of a two book series, the first is Rush of Love. Fields of Gold is a fast, fun read that tells the romantic tale of Theo, the younger brother of Samuel from Rush of Love. Theo is adorable in his awkward appeal as he works to impress Rose, the girl he's admired from afar and didn't dare approach. It's a perfect short story for a sunny afternoon.
Fields of Gold is an American Romeo and Juliet in the midst of the Gold Rush in Seattle. Separated by feuding mercantile owners, the two have to find a way to get past the tension in order to be together. Theo has watched Rose working in the mercantile across the way every day since he came to work for his brother's mercantile business. He finally gets the nerve to go across the way and ask her name. When both businesses need to pick up their supplies from Bellingham, they decided to send Theo, Rose and the local Pastor. When the pastor becomes ill, Theo and Rose must bring the shipment back to Seattle alone. Does the trip cause a scandal that will ruin the lover's chance at happiness, or will it bring them closer together?
